Heaven’s Treasury Opened: Obedience, Work, and Kingdom Wealth

Text:
Deuteronomy 28:12 (KJV)
“The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.”

Supporting Text:
Matthew 25:14–30 – The Parable of the Talents

Introduction:

Church, today we are not only looking at the blessings of obedience, but also how God sees business and productivity as part of His kingdom plan.

Deuteronomy 28 shows the results of obedience. But Matthew 25 shows the responsibility that comes with the blessings.

Business, when done in faithfulness and integrity, is not secular—it is sacred. It is one of the ways we obey God, multiply resources, and advance the kingdom.

Point 1: God Opens His Treasure – But He Looks for Faithful Stewards

Deut 28:12 – “The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure…”

Matt 25:14 – “For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.”

  • The Master in Matthew 25 gave talents (resources) to his servants.

  • One received 5, another 2, another 1—but all were expected to steward what they received.

  • Likewise, in Deuteronomy, when God opens heaven, He expects that what He gives will be used faithfully.

Application: Business is one way to multiply what God gives you. When you use your skills, land, or ideas to grow something—you are obeying like the servants who traded and gained more talents.

Point 2: God Blesses the Work of Your Hands – But He Expects Return

Deut 28:12 – “To bless all the work of thine hand…”

Matt 25:16 – “Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.”

  • The servant worked with the talents—that’s business!

  • God blessed the work of his hands, just like Deuteronomy promises.

  • The one who hid his talent and produced nothing was called wicked and slothful.

Illustration: Imagine a man given a fertile piece of land. If he does nothing with it, he can’t expect a harvest. But if he sows, waters, and works the field—God sends the rain in season and blesses the labor.

Application: Whether it’s farming, trade, services, or any enterprise—if done in faith, diligence, and honesty—it is kingdom work. God blesses that!

Point 3: Business Can Make You a Blessing – Not Just a Borrower

Deut 28:12 – “Thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.”

Matt 25:29 – “For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance…”

  • The one who multiplied the talents was given more. Why? Because he could be trusted with increase.

  • God doesn’t bless us just to enjoy more—but to become a channel of provision.

  • In business, when you walk in obedience and multiply wealth righteously, you’re positioned to lend, give, support, and bless others.

Illustration: Joseph in Egypt managed resources so well that during famine, nations came to him. He became a solution-provider. That’s God’s plan for obedient believers in business.

Conclusion: Business is Obedience When Done in Faithfulness

Let us never separate faith from work, or business from obedience. The Parable of the Talents proves that God is pleased when we:

  • Take what He gives us,

  • Work diligently with it,

  • Multiply it for His glory,

  • And bless others with the increase.

Deuteronomy 28:12 is not a magic formula—it’s the result of faith + obedience + faithful stewardship.

Closing Prayer:

“Lord, we thank You that You are the Giver of rain, talent, and treasure. Help us to be faithful stewards of what You place in our hands. Bless the work of our hands—our businesses, farms, ministries, and projects. Let us never hide our gifts, but use them to multiply Your kingdom. May we be found faithful, fruitful, and generous. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
