Where Is Your Trust

“Where Is Your Trust?”

📖 TEXT: Psalm 20:7

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”

🔊 INTRODUCTION

Beloved, today I want to ask you a simple but deep question:
What are you trusting in?

Because in life, everyone trusts something.

Some trust money.
Some trust connections.
Some trust their own strength, intelligence, or experience.

But the Bible makes a powerful contrast:
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses…”

In other words, some trust in what they can see, control, and measure.

But then comes a bold declaration:
“But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”

This is not just a verse—it is a position, a conviction, and a lifestyle.

1️⃣ HUMAN TRUST IS LIMITED

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses…”

In David’s time, chariots and horses were symbols of military power.
If you had more horses—you felt secure.
If you had more chariots—you expected victory.

It was the highest form of human strength.

But here’s the truth:
What people trusted in most… was still not enough.

Today, our “chariots and horses” have changed:

  • Bank accounts

  • Business success

  • Education

  • Technology

  • Influence

None of these are evil—but they are limited.

Money can fail.
People can disappoint.
Systems can collapse.

👉 You can have everything in your hand—and still have nothing to stand on.

2️⃣ TRUST IS A CHOICE

“…but we will…”

Notice David does not say “we feel like trusting God”
He says, “we will”

This is a decision, not an emotion.

Faith is not something that happens automatically.
It is something you choose, especially when circumstances say otherwise.

When everything is shaking—you choose to trust.
When nothing makes sense—you choose to trust.
When you feel weak—you choose to trust.

👉 Real faith is revealed in difficult moments.

And notice—it says “we will”
This is not just personal—it is collective.

As a family, as a church, as leaders—
we must decide together where our trust is.

3️⃣ THE POWER OF GOD’S NAME

“…remember the name of the Lord our God.”

The word “remember” here is powerful.

It does not mean just thinking about God occasionally.
It means:

  • To depend on Him

  • To call on Him

  • To place confidence in Him

And what are we remembering?
His NAME

God’s name represents:

  • His character → He is faithful

  • His power → He is able

  • His reputation → He has never failed

When you say, “I trust God,”
you are saying:
“I trust who He is.”

👉 You are not trusting a system—you are trusting a Person.

4️⃣ VISIBLE VS INVISIBLE

Chariots and horses are visible.
God is invisible.

And this is where faith becomes real.

Anyone can trust what they can see.
But faith says:
“I trust God even when I don’t see how.”

The world says:
“Show me, then I’ll believe.”

Faith says:
“I believe, and then I will see.”

👉 What you see is temporary.
But God is eternal.

5️⃣ THE RESULT OF YOUR TRUST

If you read the next verse (Psalm 20:8), it says:
“They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.”

Those who trusted in chariots—fell.
Those who trusted in God—stood firm.

Your foundation determines your future.

If your trust is in things—they will shake.
But if your trust is in God—you will stand.

👉 The difference is not the battle—
the difference is the foundation.

🔥 ILLUSTRATION

Imagine two people in a storm.

One builds his house on sand.
The other builds on a rock.

When the storm comes—both face the same wind, same rain.

But one collapses.
The other stands.

Why?
Because of what they trusted as their foundation.

🙏 APPLICATION

Let me ask you today:

  • What are your “chariots and horses”?

  • What do you run to first in trouble?

  • What gives you confidence right now?

Is it your ability?
Your network?
Your resources?

Or is it truly the Lord?

🔊 DECLARATION

Today, we must make a decision:

Not “some trust…”
But “WE WILL…”

  • We will trust God in our finances

  • We will trust God in our ministry

  • We will trust God in our family

  • We will trust God in uncertain times

🙌 CONCLUSION

Beloved, trusting God does not mean you don’t use resources.
It means you don’t replace God with them.

Chariots may fail.
Horses may fall.
But God never fails.

So today, stand and declare:

👉 “I will not trust in what I see—
I will trust in the name of the Lord my God.”

🙏 CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, we surrender our false securities.
Forgive us for trusting in things more than You.
Teach us to rely on Your name, Your power, and Your faithfulness.
In every situation, help us to stand firm in You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
