Fear Can Be Change (John 20:19-29) The disciples were not who you'd expect to begin a great movement. They were a simple band chosen by Jesus. What transformed them into heroes willing to lay down their lives for Christ? 1. They were Fleeing Disciples: running scared (Matt. 26:56) . They all kept quiet in their house for fear of Roman government. They also denied Jesus as their master. 2. They were Fearful Disciples: not running, just scared (John 20:19-23) . They had an encounter with Jesus (vv. 19, 20) and a commissioning by Jesus (v. 21, 23) . 3. They were Fearless Disciples: turning the world upside down (Acts 2) There are only two simple reasons to change fearful disciple to fearless: They had a genuine encounter with the living Christ, and they were empowered by the Holy Spirit.
