WHEN WE WALK IN GOD'S FAVOR
WHEN WE WALK IN GOD'S FAVOR
Even the Worst Situations Become Opportunities for His Glory and Our Growth
Main Text: Psalm 5:12
"For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield."
Introduction
Praise the Lord!
Today I want to speak on a subject that every believer desires but often misunderstands:
"Walking in the Favor of God."
Many people think God's favor means an easy life.
They believe that if God is pleased with them, there will be no sickness, no financial struggles, no closed doors, no delays, and no opposition.
But that is not what the Bible teaches.
God's favor does not always remove the storm.
Sometimes His favor carries us safely through the storm.
Sometimes His favor closes one door so that a better door can open.
Sometimes His favor delays us because danger lies ahead.
Sometimes His favor allows difficulties because He wants to display His glory.
God's favor is His loving presence working for our good and His glory.
Last week my family experienced this truth in a remarkable way. As I share our testimony, I also want to show you that every part of it is supported by God's Word.
I. GOD'S FAVOR PROVIDES
Jehovah Jireh
Before leaving home, my daughter and I planned to pick up my wife and travel to Naharlagun.
As I checked the camper van, I noticed that the fuel tank was almost empty.
Only about ten percent remained.
Immediately one name came into my heart:
Jehovah Jireh—The Lord Will Provide.
We searched for fuel.
One petrol pump.
Closed.
Another one.
Closed.
Another one.
Closed.
There seemed to be no human solution.
Many people stop believing when they cannot see a solution.
Faith begins where human ability ends.
Instead of becoming anxious, we decided to continue trusting God.
Unexpectedly, we met my brother-in-law.
Without hesitation he gave us twenty liters of fuel.
When we offered to pay, he refused.
At that moment my daughter smiled and said,
"This is God's provision."
She was absolutely right.
God had already arranged the answer before we knew how He would provide.
Biblical Example
When God asked Abraham to offer Isaac, there appeared to be no solution.
Yet at the exact moment God provided the ram.
That is why Abraham declared,
"The Lord Will Provide."
Notice something important.
God did not provide the ram the night before.
God provided exactly when Abraham needed it.
God is never late.
His timing is perfect.
Application
Perhaps your finances are low.
Perhaps your business is struggling.
Perhaps your ministry lacks resources.
Perhaps your family has needs beyond your ability.
Remember this:
God's supply is never limited by your resources.
Our economy may fail.
People may fail.
But Jehovah Jireh never fails.
II. GOD'S FAVOR DELAYS US FOR OUR PROTECTION
After receiving fuel, we continued our journey.
When we reached Possa, the road was blocked because of a landslide.
Immediately our plans changed.
We turned back to Yazali.
We stopped for breakfast.
Humanly speaking, this felt like an interruption.
Nobody enjoys delays.
While eating, a policeman informed us:
"The road has reopened."
We continued.
After crossing safely...
Another massive landslide came down behind us.
The road remained closed for the rest of the day.
At that moment we understood.
Our delay had become our protection.
God Often Uses Delays
Sometimes we become angry because God delays answers.
But perhaps God is delaying us because He loves us.
A delayed prayer is not always a denied prayer.
A delayed journey is not always a failed journey.
Sometimes delays are God's invisible protection.
Biblical Example
The children of Israel did not take the shortest route to the Promised Land.
God intentionally led them another way.
Why?
Because He knew what they were not ready to face.
God saw farther than they could see.
Likewise, our heavenly Father sees tomorrow while we only see today.
Application
Have you experienced:
A delayed promotion?
A delayed marriage?
A delayed ministry?
A delayed breakthrough?
Instead of asking,
"God, why are You delaying me?"
Perhaps ask,
"Lord, what are You protecting me from?"
III. GOD'S FAVOR MAKES A WAY WHERE THERE IS NO WAY
After completing our work, we prepared to return home.
People told us,
"It is impossible."
"The mountain has collapsed."
"The road will never open today."
Those statements were based on facts.
Faith never denies facts.
Faith simply believes that God has the final word.
We prayed.
Trusted God.
Started driving.
When we reached the blocked area...
The road had been cleared.
We crossed safely.
Everyone said impossible.
God said possible.
Biblical Examples
The Red Sea had no bridge.
Yet God opened the sea.
Jericho had strong walls.
Yet God brought them down.
The tomb was sealed.
Yet Jesus rose again.
The God we serve specializes in impossible situations.
IV. GOD'S FAVOR TURNS OBSTACLES INTO TESTIMONIES
When we looked back over the day, everything made sense.
The empty fuel tank...
became part of the testimony.
The closed petrol pumps...
became part of the testimony.
The delay...
became part of the testimony.
The landslide...
became part of the testimony.
The impossible road...
became part of the testimony.
God never wasted one moment.
Every event served His purpose.
This is why Romans 8:28 is so powerful.
God works in ALL things.
Not just pleasant things.
Not just successful things.
ALL things.
Even painful moments become instruments in God's hands.
V. JESUS IS THE GREATEST EXAMPLE OF GOD'S FAVOR
The greatest example of this truth is found at the cross.
Think about Good Friday.
Everything looked hopeless.
Jesus was arrested.
He was beaten.
He was mocked.
He was crucified.
He died.
The disciples believed everything was over.
But what looked like Satan's greatest victory became God's greatest triumph.
The cross became salvation.
The grave became victory.
Death became eternal life.
What appeared to be the worst day in history became the greatest demonstration of God's love.
If God could transform the cross into salvation, He can transform your situation into a testimony.
VI. HOW DO WE WALK IN GOD'S FAVOR?
1. Walk by faith, not by sight.
Faith trusts God before seeing the answer.
2. Obey God even when you do not understand Him.
Obedience opens doors that human wisdom cannot.
3. Pray continually.
Prayer invites God's direction into every decision.
4. Give thanks in every circumstance.
Gratitude recognizes God's hand before the miracle is complete.
5. Keep your eyes on Christ.
Our confidence is not in circumstances.
It is in Jesus Christ.
CONCLUSION
Lasts week journey taught our family something unforgettable.
When the fuel was almost gone—
God provided.
When the road was closed—
God protected.
When everyone said impossible—
God made a way.
Looking back, we realized that God was directing every step.
Church, perhaps today your own "fuel tank" is almost empty.
Perhaps your road is blocked.
Perhaps everyone around you is telling you to give up.
Do not lose heart.
The same God who provided for Abraham is still Jehovah Jireh.
The same God who led Israel through the wilderness is still guiding His people.
The same God who raised Jesus from the dead is still working miracles today.
When we walk in God's favor, even the worst situations become opportunities for His glory and our growth.
Walk by faith.
Trust His timing.
Believe His promises.
His favor surrounds His children like a shield.
And one day, when you look back, you will discover that every delay, every closed door, every obstacle, and every miracle was part of God's perfect plan.
To Him alone be all the glory forever and ever.
Amen.
