Seeking First God's Kingdom

Seeking First God's Kingdom Through Business

📖 Key Verse: Matthew 6:33“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Introduction

Many believers misunderstand this verse, thinking that seeking God’s Kingdom means only focusing on spiritual things and ignoring business or work. But God’s Kingdom is not just about prayer and church—it includes business, economy, and productivity.

From Genesis to Revelation, God’s plan has always involved work, stewardship, and multiplication. Seeking His Kingdom first means doing business His way, with integrity, purpose, and faith.

I. The Kingdom of God Includes Business

🔹 The Kingdom of God is His rule over all areas of life, including business, work, and finance.
🔹 God created humanity to build, produce, and manage resources as part of His divine plan.
🔹 Many of the great people in the Bible—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, and even Jesus—were involved in business!

📖 Genesis 1:28“Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it.”
🔹 This is not just about having children—it’s about productivity, creativity, and stewardship.
🔹 Business is one of the ways we fulfill this command!

📖 Deuteronomy 8:18“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
🔹 God gives us power to create wealth, but it must be used for His purposes.

II. Jesus and Business: A Biblical Pattern

1. Jesus Was a Businessman Before Ministry

📖 Mark 6:3 – “Isn’t this the carpenter?”
🔹 Jesus worked in His earthly father’s carpentry business before His ministry began.
🔹 He understood business, customer service, and hard work.

2. Jesus Used Business Examples in His Parables

📖 Matthew 25:14-30 – The Parable of the Talents
🔹 The faithful servants invested and multiplied their resources—this is a business principle!
🔹 Jesus praised them for being productive and wise stewards.

📖 Luke 19:13“Occupy till I come.”
🔹 Jesus told His followers to be engaged in work and business until He returns.

3. Many Biblical Heroes Were Businessmen

  • Abraham – Wealthy livestock owner (Genesis 13:2).
  • Joseph – Economic strategist in Egypt (Genesis 41).
  • Lydia – A successful businesswoman (Acts 16:14).
  • Paul – A tentmaker while preaching the Gospel (Acts 18:3).

Business was never separate from faith—it was a tool for advancing God’s Kingdom!

III. How to Seek First the Kingdom in Business

1. Run a Business with Kingdom Values

📖 Proverbs 11:1“The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him.”
🔹 Be honest, fair, and ethical in pricing, wages, and contracts.
🔹 Serve customers with excellence and integrity.

2. Use Business to Bless Others

📖 Proverbs 22:9“The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”
🔹 Business is not just for personal wealth—it should be used to create jobs, help the poor, and support ministry.

3. Trust God, Not Money

📖 Matthew 6:24“You cannot serve both God and money.”
🔹 Money is a tool, not a master. Seek God's will in finances and business decisions.

4. Multiply Resources for the Kingdom

📖 Luke 16:10“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”
🔹 If we are faithful in small things, God will bless us with more to manage for His glory.

Conclusion: Business is a Kingdom Assignment

💡 Seeking God’s Kingdom first means doing business God’s way!
💡 Jesus never separated faith from work—He taught business principles and expected His followers to be productive stewards.

📖 Colossians 3:23“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Final Prayer:

🙏 Lord, help us to see our businesses and work as part of Your Kingdom. Give us wisdom to operate with integrity, excellence, and purpose. May our businesses be a light that glorifies You and blesses others. Amen.
