Teaching Church Leaders: Business is God’s Idea, Not Satan’s

Many church leaders misunderstand business, seeing it as worldly, sinful, or under Satan’s yoke. However, the Bible teaches that business is God’s tool for stewardship, provision, and kingdom expansion. This lesson will help church leaders understand the biblical foundation of business and how it can glorify God.

📌 1. Why Do Some Churches Reject Business? (Common Misconceptions)

🔴 Myth #1: “Money is evil.”
📖 1 Timothy 6:10 – “For the love of money is the root of all evil.”
✅ Truth: Money itself is not evil; it’s the love of money that leads to sin.

🔴 Myth #2: “Rich people cannot enter heaven.”
📖 Matthew 19:24 – "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
✅ Truth: Jesus was warning against trusting in wealth, not against wealth itself. Abraham, Job, and Solomon were rich and still faithful to God.

🔴 Myth #3: “Business is worldly, and only ministry is godly.”
📖 Exodus 31:3-5 – God filled Bezalel with wisdom and skill to build for His glory.
✅ Truth: Business, like any other work, can be a calling from God when done with integrity.

📌 2. What Does the Bible Teach About Business?

(A) God Designed Business for Stewardship

📖 Genesis 1:28 – "Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it."
✅ Business is a way to multiply resources and be a good steward of God’s gifts.

✅ God expects multiplication. The servant who did business and doubled his talents was praised!

(B) Business Provides for Families and Communities

📖 Proverbs 31:16 – “She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings, she plants a vineyard.”
✅ A righteous woman engages in business and provides for her household.

📖 1 Timothy 5:8 – "Anyone who does not provide for their relatives… has denied the faith."
✅ Business can be a means of provision and fulfilling our responsibility.

(C) Business Helps the Poor and Advances the Gospel

📖 Ephesians 4:28 – “Work… so that you may have something to share with those in need.”
✅ A godly business blesses others, creates jobs, and helps the poor.

📖 Luke 8:3 – Women like Joanna and Susanna supported Jesus’ ministry with their wealth.
✅ Kingdom-minded businesspeople can financially support God’s work.

(D) Christians Should Be Business Leaders with Integrity

📖 Proverbs 22:29 – "Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings."
✅ Christian entrepreneurs should aim for excellence and influence.

📖 Colossians 3:23-24 – "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."
✅ When Christians run businesses with integrity, they bring glory to God.

  • Teach that business is not separate from faith—it is a mission field!
  • Encourage business owners to hire fairly, pay well, and give generously.
