Committing Our Plans to the Lord
Committing Our Plans to the Lord
Introduction
Life is full of decisions—whether in our personal lives, businesses, or ministries. Many times, we make plans, work hard, and strive for success. But Proverbs 16:3 gives us a key principle:
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans."
This verse teaches us that success isn’t just about effort; it’s about surrender. Today, we will explore three key truths from this verse that can transform the way we work, plan, and live.
1. The Command: Commit Your Work to the Lord
The word commit in Hebrew literally means “to roll onto.” It gives the image of rolling a burden off your shoulders and placing it onto God’s. This means we are not meant to carry the weight of our plans alone.
Application:
- Before making decisions in business or ministry, seek God in prayer.
- Surrender your desires and ambitions to Him, asking for His will to be done.
- Trust that He sees the bigger picture and knows what is best for you.
Example: Jesus Himself demonstrated this in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). If Jesus committed His path to the Father, how much more should we?
2. The Promise: He Will Establish Your Plans
God doesn’t just take our plans; He shapes them, aligns them with His purposes, and ensures they succeed in ways that glorify Him. This doesn’t mean every idea we have will work out the way we expect, but it means that God will direct us toward what is ultimately best.
Application:
- When challenges arise, trust that God is working behind the scenes.
- Be patient—sometimes God delays our plans to refine us.
- Look for His direction through His Word, wise counsel, and the peace of the Holy Spirit.
Example: Joseph in the Bible had dreams of leadership, but his journey took unexpected detours—betrayal, slavery, and prison. Yet, in the end, God established his plans, making him a ruler in Egypt to save many lives.
3. The Outcome: A Life Aligned with God's Will
When we commit our work to the Lord, we experience peace, purpose, and fruitfulness. Even when things don’t go as planned, we can trust that God’s plans are better.
Reflection Questions:
- Are you truly committing your work, family, and business to God, or are you holding onto control?
- How can you involve God more in your daily decisions?
- Do you trust God to establish your plans, even if the path is different from what you expected?
Conclusion
True success comes not from striving alone but from surrendering to God. As we roll our burdens onto Him and trust Him with our plans, He will direct our steps and establish the work of our hands.
Call to Action:
- This week, before making any major decision, take time to pray and seek God’s guidance.
- Write down your plans and surrender them to God, asking Him to align them with His will.
- Trust Him, even when the journey looks uncertain, knowing that He is in control.
May we live with faith, commit our work to the Lord, and watch Him establish our plans for His glory. Amen.
