Business is Rejected

Many churches today misunderstand business, treating it as something worldly, sinful, or even under Satan’s control. But that is not a biblical view. Let's explore why this happens and what the Bible actually says about business.

1. Why Do Some Churches Reject Business?

(A) Misinterpretation of Scripture

Many churches focus on verses like:
📖 Matthew 19:24 – “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

🚫 Misinterpretation: Some take this to mean that being wealthy or running a business is sinful.
Truth: Jesus was warning about the love of money, not wealth itself. Abraham, Job, and Solomon were wealthy but still loved and served God.

(B) Fear of Greed and Corruption

📖 1 Timothy 6:10 – "For the love of money is the root of all evil."

🚫 Misinterpretation: Some churches think money itself is evil.
Truth: The verse says “love of money”, not money itself. Money is a tool, and business can be used for good or evil.

(C) Influence of Poverty Theology

Some churches teach “poverty = holiness”, believing that true Christians should suffer and reject wealth.

🚫 Wrong Belief: Being rich is sinful; being poor is godly.
Biblical Truth: God blesses His people with resources to be stewards and bless others (Deuteronomy 8:18).

(D) Lack of Business Knowledge in Churches

Many pastors are not trained in business and only focus on spiritual matters. They fail to teach:

  • How biblical businesses can help communities
  • How entrepreneurship creates jobs and reduces poverty
  • How business can spread the Gospel

🚫 Problem: Without knowledge, some pastors assume all business is dishonest.
Solution: The church should teach godly entrepreneurship based on biblical principles.

2. Business is God’s Idea, Not Satan’s!

The Bible never says business is under Satan’s yoke. In fact, God designed business as a way to:

(A) Steward God’s Resources

📖 Genesis 1:28 – “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it.”
✅ God wants us to manage and grow what He has given us.

(B) Provide for Our Families

📖 Proverbs 31:16-18 – The Proverbs 31 woman buys land, plants a vineyard, and trades profitably.
✅ Business is a biblical way to provide for one’s family.

(C) Bless Others and Help the Poor

📖 Ephesians 4:28 – “Do something useful with your hands so that you may have something to share with those in need.”
✅ A godly business can help the needy, create jobs, and support the church.

(D) Support God’s Kingdom

📖 Luke 8:3 – Women like Joanna and Susanna used their wealth to support Jesus’ ministry.
✅ Without businesspeople, even Jesus’ mission would have lacked funding!

3. Why Business Can Be a Powerful Christian Tool

If done with integrity, business can:
Create jobs and lift people out of poverty.
Fund ministries and missions.
Demonstrate Christian values in the marketplace.
Help Christians become financially independent instead of relying only on donations.

4. How Should the Church Teach About Business?

(A) Preach the Truth About Wealth and Business

  • Money is neutral – it depends on how it is used.
  • Business is a tool – it can serve God if done honestly.
  • Christians should be leaders in the marketplace, setting an example of integrity.

📖 Deuteronomy 8:18 – “Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”

God empowers us to do business—not Satan!

(B) Train Entrepreneurs in the Church

  • Teach young people how to start godly businesses.
  • Equip believers with financial wisdom.
  • Create Christian business networks to support each other.

📖 Proverbs 22:29 – “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings.”

Christians should be excellent in business to glorify God!

(C) Encourage Business as a Calling

  • Just like pastors are called to ministry, some are called to business.
  • They can impact society, create jobs, and support God’s work.

📖 Exodus 31:3-5 – God gave Bezalel skill in craftsmanship to build the tabernacle.

Business is a God-given skill!

5. Final Thought: Break the Lie, Reclaim Business for God!

🚫 LIE: Business is under Satan’s yoke.
TRUTH: God created business to bless people and build His kingdom!

Churches should stop condemning business and start empowering Christian entrepreneurs to:

  • Be honest
  • Be generous
  • Lead with excellence

📖 Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
