Understanding the Times: Speeding Up When God Moves
Understanding the Times: Speeding Up When God Moves
Key Verse: 1 Chronicles 12:32 – “The sons of Issachar, who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do...”
Introduction
God’s timing is important in every area of life. Some seasons require waiting, while others require immediate action. The sons of Issachar were wise because they understood the times and responded accordingly. Today, we must learn when to speed up and move forward without delay.
1. Understanding the Times Means Recognizing God’s Timing
- Ecclesiastes 3:1 – “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
- We must recognize when to act and when to wait.
- Just as farmers understand when to plant and harvest, we must understand God’s appointed time for action.
Example:
- Noah and the Ark – When God told Noah to build the ark, he acted immediately (Genesis 6:22). If he delayed, he would have missed God's protection.
2. When God Opens a Door, Move Quickly
- Revelation 3:8 – “I have set before you an open door, which no man can shut.”
- Delayed obedience can lead to missed opportunities.
- When God calls you to step into a new level, don’t hesitate!
Example:
- David’s Kingship – When the time came for David to rule, the tribes came to him quickly (1 Chronicles 12:23-40). The people understood it was the right moment to establish his kingdom.
3. The Danger of Waiting Too Long
- Proverbs 10:5 – “He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.”
- Some people miss their blessings because they delay too much.
- We must not procrastinate when God gives us a clear direction.
Example:
- Lot’s Family Delayed – When God told Lot to flee Sodom, he hesitated, and the angels had to drag him out (Genesis 19:15-16). Many today delay leaving sinful situations and miss God's blessing.
4. Speeding Up in Our Spiritual Life
- Hebrews 12:1 – “Let us run with endurance the race set before us.”
- We should not be lazy in spiritual matters.
- Areas where we need to speed up:
- Prayer life – Do not wait for problems to pray.
- Serving God – Work for God while you have time.
- Evangelism – The harvest is ready (Matthew 9:37-38).
Example:
- The Early Church Moved Fast – After Pentecost, the disciples did not wait; they spread the Gospel immediately (Acts 2:41-47). That’s why Christianity grew so fast!
Conclusion
