A Prayer for Overcoming Sexual Temptation

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your strength and guidance. You created me with desires, but I want to honor You in how I use them. Lord, I confess any impure thoughts, actions, or struggles I have faced. Please cleanse me and renew my heart.

Your Word says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that You always provide a way out of temptation. Help me to recognize and take that way out when I am tempted. Give me the wisdom to avoid situations, media, or relationships that pull me away from purity.

Lord, I ask for a heart that desires holiness. As Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." Fill my mind with things that are true, noble, and pure (Philippians 4:8).

When I am weak, remind me that Your grace is sufficient for me (2 Corinthians 12:9). Strengthen me by Your Spirit so that I can walk in victory each day. Surround me with godly friends and mentors who can encourage me in my walk.

Thank You, Lord, for Your love, mercy, and patience. I believe that through Christ, I am more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). Help me to walk in purity and honor You with my life.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Practical Steps for Staying Pure

  1. Pray Daily – Ask God for strength each morning.
  2. Memorize Scripture – Meditate on verses about purity (Psalm 119:9-11).
  3. Avoid Triggers – Stay away from things that stir up temptation (movies, websites, etc.).
  4. Have an Accountability Partner – Find a godly friend to encourage and pray for you.
  5. Fill Your Mind with Godly Things – Listen to worship music, read the Bible, and focus on your purpose.
  6. Fast and Seek God – Fasting helps break sinful patterns (Isaiah 58:6).
  7. Serve Others – Stay busy with God’s work to keep your focus on Him
