The Power of Vision

Faith Amid Famine (1 Kings 17:7­-24)

Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is the truth (v.24).

Today we are going to be learning quite an object lesson through a bin of flour and a jar of oil. I realize that talking about flour, oil, bread, and food can make your mouth water. I hope today we all came into this building hungry--at least spiritually hungry. Do you have a financial problem?

Are your relationships hurting? Do you need a fresh encounter with the Lord? Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst" (John 6:35).

1. A Parchedness of Faith (1 King. 17:7­9). The Word of the Lord came to Elijah instructing him to go to the town of Zarephath where a widow would supply him with food. The drought was an object lesson of the dryness of the nation's relationship with God (Amos 8 and Psalm 42). Now that the brook had run dry, the Lord placed Elijah in Zarephath, a suburb of the capital city where the wicked Jezebel's father was king!

2. A Preview of Faith (1 King. 17:10­-15). In Zarephath, Elijah found a certain widow. and Elijah asked for a flask of water. He tested her willingness and obedience. When she agreed, Elijah added a request for bread. She told Elijah she had only enough for her and her son to have a last meal before starvation. Most of us would have reacted harshly, but this woman said, "As surely as the Lord your God lives ..." She knew Yahweh was the Living God, but He was not her God ("your God lives"). The gentle hand of God was leading her into progressive faith. Elijah said, "Can I have a drink? Can I have a slice of bread? Make for me a pancake." As we respond to God's Word with trusting obedience in each step, so He will lead us to greater understanding of Himself and the blessing of His promise of salvation.

3. A Provision of Faith (1 King. 17:15, 16). It's safe to assume that neither the flour jar nor the oil jug were large. At the end of each day, her jug and jar looked to be just as nearly empty as they did that first evening when she met Elijah. God gave her and Elijah only their daily bread (Matthew 6:11). Faith is progressive, not a one-time commitment. Elijah and the widow did not respond with faith just once and then receive a warehouse full of flour and oil. At the end of each day, they had to acknowledge their complete dependence upon the Lord and trust Him for enough grace for the next day (see Lamentations. 3:22, 23).

4. A Prayer of Faith (1 King 17:17-­23). We don't know how long this way of life continued, but some time later the son of the woman became ill and died. Then her faith was tested in a new dimension. The woman faced death yet again, saying to Elijah, "What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?" (v.18). Did not God promise life when He gave the promise of food? On the basis of the promise of God's Word, Elijah prayed to the Lord to revive the boy. We should pray with such awareness of the Word of the Lord that our prayers are built on the foundation of God's promises.

5. A Profession of Faith (1 King 17:24). The woman's response was a deeper and more personal profession of faith in the one true living God. She understood that there was more to this than simply the death of her son's body. It had to do with her sinfulness and spiritual death. Her confession is seen in verse 24. She comprehends the truth. God's Word can be trusted beyond doubt. You can trust the Word of the Lord for all your needs in life and death.

We don't live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8:3). Do not seek to satisfy the longing of your soul with bread, but trust the Lord of life who gives living water and the Bread of Life. Cling to the Cross of Christ. Through it you have the forgiveness of sin and the promise of life eternal. May we say, "Now we know that the Word of the Lord is the truth" and make that truth into a living faith.

अब मुझे यकीन हो गया है कि तू परमेश्वर का जन है, और यहोवा का जो वचन तेरे मुँख से निकलता है वह सच होता है (v.24) ।

1. विश्वास का एक पैमाना (1 राजा। 17:7-9) । एलिय्याह के पास परमेश्वर का वचन आया, उसे ज़रीफाथ शहर में जाने का निर्देश दिया है जहाँ एक विधवा उसे भोजन के लिए आपूर्ति करेगी। सूखा, परमेश्वर के साथ राष्ट्र के रिश्ते की सूखापन संबंधों के सूखने का एक विषय पाठ थे (आमोस 8 और भजन 42) । अब जब ब्रुक सूख गया था, तब यहोवा ने एलिय्याह को राजधानी शहर के एक उपनगर ज़ारेफथ में रखा, जहाँ दुष्ट इज़ेबेल का पिता राजा था!

2. विश्वास का एक अभ्यास (1 राजा 17: 10-15)। ज़ारेफथ में, एलियाह ने निश्चित रूप से एक विधवा को पाया। और एलिय्याह ने पानी पिलाने लिए कहा। उसने उसकी इच्छा और आज्ञाकारिता का परीक्षण किया। जब वह सहमत हो गई, तो एलियाह ने रोटी के लिए एक अनुरोध जोड़ा । उसने बताया कि एलियाह को, उसके  पास केवल उसके और उसके बेटे के लिए भुखमरी से पहले अंतिम भोजन करने के लिए पर्याप्त था। हम में से अधिकतर ने कठोर विरुद्ध प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की होगी, इस हालत में । लेकिन इस महिला ने कहा, "जैसा कि निश्चित रूप से आपके प्रभु परमेश्वर रहते हैं ..." वह जानती थी कि यहोवा जीवित परमेश्वर था, लेकिन वह उसका परमेश्वर नहीं था ("आपके परमेश्वर जीवित है") । परमेश्वर का कोमल हाथ उसे प्रगतिशील विश्वास में ले जा रहा था। एलिय्याह ने कहा, " क्या मुझे पानी मिल सकता है? क्या मुझे रोटी मिल सकती है? मेरे लिए एक रोटी बनाओ" । जैसा कि हम प्रत्येक चरण में आज्ञाकारी विश्वास के साथ परमेश्वर के वचन का जवाब देते हैं, इसलिए वह हमें अपने आप को और अधिक समझ और उद्धार के अपने वचन के आशीर्वाद के लिए प्रेरित करेगा।

3. विश्वास का एक प्रावधान (1 राजा। 17: 15, 16) । यह मान लेना सुरक्षित है कि न तो आटा जार और न ही तेल गुड़ बड़े थे। प्रत्येक दिन के अंत में, उसकी जुग और सुराही लगभग उतनी ही खाली दिखती थी, जितनी उस शाम को जब वह एलिय्याह से मिली थी। परमेश्वर ने उसे और एलिय्याह को केवल अपनी दैनिक रोटी दी (मत्ती 6:11) । विश्वास प्रगतिशील है, एक बार की प्रतिबद्धता नहीं। एलिय्याह और विधवा ने सिर्फ एक बार विश्वास के साथ जवाब नहीं दिया और फिर आटा और तेल से भरा एक गोदाम प्राप्त किया। प्रत्येक दिन के अंत में, उन्हें प्रभु पर अपनी पूर्ण निर्भरता को स्वीकार करना पड़ा और अगले दिन के लिए पर्याप्त अनुग्रह के लिए उस पर भरोसा करना चाहिए (विलापगीत 3:22, 23 देखें) ।

4. विश्वास की एक प्रार्थना (1 राजा 17: 17, 23) । हम नहीं जानते कि जीवन के यह सफर कब तक जारी रहेंगे, लेकिन कुछ समय बाद महिला का बेटा बीमार हो गया और उसकी मृत्यु हो गई। तब उसके विश्वास को नए आयाम में परखा गया। एलियाह से यह कहते हुए कि "हे परमेश्वर के सेवक, मुझे क्या करना है? क्या तुम मेरे पाप को याद करने, और मेरे बेटे को मारने के लिए मेरे पास आए हो?" (V.18) । जब उसने भोजन का वचन दिया तो क्या परमेश्वर ने जीवन का वादा नहीं किया? परमेश्‍वर के वचन के आधार पर, एलिय्याह ने लड़के को पुनर्जीवित करने के लिए प्रभु से प्रार्थना की। हमें प्रभु के वचन के प्रति ऐसी सजगता के साथ प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए कि हमारी प्रार्थना परमेश्वर के वादों की नींव पर बने।

5. विश्वास का एक पेशा (1 राजा 17:24) । महिला की प्रतिक्रिया एक सच्चे जीवित परमेश्वर में विश्वास का एक गहरा और अधिक व्यक्तिगत पेशा था। वह समझती थी कि उसके बेटे के शरीर की मृत्यु के अलावा और भी बहुत कुछ था। यह उसकी पापबुद्धि और आध्यात्मिक मृत्यु के साथ करना था। उसकी स्वीकारोक्ति को पद्य 24 में देखी गई है। वह सच्चाई को समझती है। परमेश्वर के वचन पर संदेह से परे भरोसा किया जा सकता है। आप जीवन और मृत्यु में अपनी सभी जरूरतों के लिए प्रभु के वचन पर भरोसा कर सकते हैं।

हम केवल रोटी से नहीं बल्कि हर एक उस शब्द से जीते हैं जो परमेश्वर के मुख से आता है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 8:3) । रोटी के साथ अपनी आत्मा की लालसा को संतुष्ट करने की कोशिश मत करो, लेकिन जीवन का स्वामी पर भरोसा करो जो जीवित पानी और जीवन की रोटी देता है। मसीह के क्रॉस से चिपके हुए। इसके माध्यम से आपको पाप की क्षमा और जीवन का अनन्त वचन मिलता है। हम कह सकते हैं, "अब हम जानते हैं कि प्रभु का वचन सत्य है" और उस सत्य को एक जीवित विश्वास में बनाते हैं।
