Words That Heal, Not Words That Hurt
“Words That Heal, Not Words That Hurt”
Main Text: 📖 Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue has the power of life and death…”
🌿 Introduction
In marriage, words can either build a home or break it.
Sometimes, in anger, words come out like:
“Go to another woman…”
But God is asking today:
👉 Are your words giving life… or causing pain?
💔 1. Words Can Wound Deeply
📖 Proverbs 12:18
Reckless words are like a sword.
Even strong men are deeply hurt by harsh words.
A husband may stay silent—but his heart remembers.
🌱 2. A Wise Woman Builds Her Home
📖 Proverbs 14:1
Let us look at a biblical example:
👑 Abigail (1 Samuel 25)
Her husband was foolish and harsh
But Abigail spoke wisely and acted with humility
She saved her household from destruction
👉 She did not add fuel to the problem—she brought peace.
Lesson: A wise woman brings calm, not chaos.
🔥 3. Words Can Destroy a Life
Now look at the opposite example:
👑 Delilah (Judges 16)
Through her words and persistence, she weakened Samson
Her influence led to his downfall
👉 Wrong words, wrong influence, can destroy even a strong man.
Lesson: Be careful—your words carry power.
❤️ 4. Gentle Words Bring Peace
📖 Ephesians 4:29
Another example:
👑 Ruth
Ruth spoke with kindness, loyalty, and humility
Her words brought blessing and honor into her life
👉 Gentle speech attracts God’s favor.
👑 5. Honor the Marriage Covenant
📖 Hebrews 13:4
Also remember:
👑 Sarah
She respected her husband
She walked with him even in difficult seasons
👉 Honor and respect strengthen marriage.
🌼 Conclusion
Dear sisters,
You have power in your words:
Like Abigail, you can bring peace
Like Ruth, you can bring blessing
Or like Delilah, words can bring destruction
👉 Choose to build, not break.
🙏 Closing Prayer
“Lord, give us wisdom like Abigail, kindness like Ruth, and a heart of honor like Sarah. Help us to control our words and build our homes with love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
