Time Is Given to Fulfill Our Purpose

Time Is Given to Fulfill Our Purpose

Key Verse: Psalm 90:12 – “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Introduction

  • Time is a limited resource that God has given to every person.
  • Every second we have is meant to glorify God and fulfill His purpose.
  • Many people waste time or fail to recognize their purpose—but God calls us to use time wisely.

I. Life Is Short, So We Must Use Time Wisely

James 4:14 – “You do not know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

  • Life is temporary—what we do with our time matters.
  • We should not waste time on meaningless pursuits but focus on God’s mission for us.

Example: Jesus (33 Years of Purposeful Living)

  • Jesus only lived 33 years, but He fulfilled His mission completely.
  • He focused on teaching, healing, and saving souls, never wasting time.
  • In three years of ministry, He transformed the world forever.

Application:

  • Stop procrastinating—start using your time for God’s glory today.
  • Make every moment count by living with purpose.

II. Every Season of Life Has a Purpose

Ecclesiastes 3:1 – “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”

  • Some seasons are for learning, some for serving, and some for leading.
  • If we waste one season, we might miss what God has prepared for the next.

Example: Joseph (From Prison to Palace in God’s Timing)

  • Joseph had a dream but went through seasons of difficulty (slavery and prison).
  • If he had given up in prison, he would have never fulfilled his calling as a ruler in Egypt.
  • Every season—good or bad—was part of God’s preparation.

Application:

  • Don’t waste your waiting season—use it to prepare for what’s next.
  • Trust that God’s timing is perfect—He is working in every season of your life.

III. We Will Be Accountable for How We Use Our Time

Romans 14:12 – “So then, each of us shall give an account of himself to God.”

  • God has given us talents, time, and opportunities—and we will answer for how we used them.
  • The parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) teaches that God expects us to multiply what He has given us.

Example: Paul (A Life Fully Poured Out for God)

  • Paul once persecuted Christians, but after meeting Jesus, he used every moment to serve God.
  • He wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
  • Paul did not waste his time—he fulfilled his God-given mission.

Application:

  • Ask yourself: Am I using my time for God’s kingdom or just for myself?
  • Serve faithfully in whatever task God has given you today.

Conclusion

  • Time is a gift from God, and He has given it to us for a purpose.
  • Life is short—use time wisely for God’s glory.
  • Every season has a purpose—trust God’s timing.
  • We will be accountable for how we use our time—make it count!

Final Prayer:

“Lord, help us to understand the purpose of time. Teach us to use our days wisely, to live with purpose, and to serve You faithfully. May we complete the mission You have given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
