Assurance of Our Sonship and God’s Favor"
Scripture: Romans 8:16
"The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God."
Introduction:
- Begin with a relatable example: Imagine being the child of someone like Mukesh Ambani, one of the wealthiest individuals in the world. His children don’t have to earn their place in the family—they inherit his wealth, influence, and resources simply because they are his sons and daughters.
- Transition: Similarly, our heavenly Father is the Creator of the universe, and as His children, we inherit far greater treasures—His love, grace, and favor.
I. The Role of the Holy Spirit in Testifying
A. The Spirit’s Unique Witness
- Just as the children of a wealthy family know their identity and inheritance, the Holy Spirit assures us of our identity as children of God.
- His testimony is a deep, personal confirmation that we belong to the family of God.
B. The Spirit’s Testimony is Truthful and Reliable
- Unlike earthly wealth that can fade, the Spirit’s testimony is eternal and rooted in God’s unchanging Word.
- The Spirit’s role is to remind us that our identity and inheritance are secure in Christ (John 16:13).
II. Confidence in Our Relationship with God
A. Assurance Amid Doubt
- Even the Ambani children might face challenges, but they don’t doubt their identity or access to their father’s resources.
- Similarly, when we face trials, the Holy Spirit reminds us that we have unlimited access to our Father’s love, grace, and power.
B. The Confidence to Approach God
- The sons of a powerful business tycoon don’t hesitate to ask for what they need; they approach their father with confidence.
- As God’s children, we have the same boldness to approach Him, knowing His favor rests on us (Hebrews 4:16).
III. God’s Favor on His Children
A. Favor Through Identity
- Just as the Ambani children are surrounded by opportunities and privileges because of their family name, we as children of God experience divine favor.
- Psalm 5:12: “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
B. Favor Through Access
- Earthly children inherit businesses and wealth; we inherit the Kingdom of God and all its blessings.
- Unlike worldly resources, our inheritance in Christ is inexhaustible (Philippians 4:19).
C. Favor as a Testimony
- Just as the success and influence of the Ambani family are visible to the world, God’s favor on His children becomes a testimony of His goodness.
- Examples: Joseph in Egypt, Esther before the king, and David in the palace—all experienced favor because of their divine identity.
IV. Living as Children of God
A. A Life of Intimacy with the Father
- The Ambani children don’t just inherit wealth—they also enjoy a close relationship with their father, which brings further favor.
- Our relationship with God is the source of our confidence and favor (Romans 8:15).
B. A Life Empowered by the Spirit
- As heirs of God’s promises (Romans 8:17), we walk with the assurance that His favor surrounds us daily.
- His Spirit empowers us to live with boldness and purpose, knowing that God’s resources are unlimited.
C. A Life of Witness to the World
- The world notices the privilege and favor of influential families. In the same way, when we live confidently as God’s children, people see His goodness through us.
- Please don't to share your testimonies of how God’s favor has impact your lives.
Conclusion:
- Just as children of influential families enjoy privilege and favor, we as God’s children inherit His favor, love, and grace.
- Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
