V. 3 HADES

3- HADES
We have learned in the previous lesson that Sheol is holding place of the righteous and wicked Souls before the time of cross. Now let us learn HADES in this lesson to prove that Sheol is truly holding place of human soul.

Old Testament prophecy
Psalm 16:10  For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your Holy One see corruption.
It was an Old Testament prophecy about the destination of Jesus’ body and soul just after His death on the cross. The prophecy here means that Jesus’ soul will go to sheol but God will not allow His soul to remain there. Corruption means Jesus’ body would not decay in the grave. We know all this was completely fulfilled in Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Fulfillment in New Testament
Acts 2:27  For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.
Peter exactly quoted Psalm 16:10 in Acts 2:27 concerning Jesus’ death and resurrection where he put the word “Hades” in place of  “Sheol”. So, Sheol in Hebrew is called Hades in Greek. Hence; Hades and Sheol are the same, the world of departed human soul. Peter said that Psalm 16:10 was a prophecy of Jesus death and resurrection and thus He exactly fulfilled it by rising from the dead.

Peter’s explanation
Acts 2:31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

Septuagint:
Around 275 BC, there was a king lived in Egypt whose name was Ptolemy-II. That time Israel was under the control of this king. So, this king summoned 70 best Hebrew Bible scholar to Egypt and commanded them to translate Hebrew Old Testament Bible into Greek. So, they translated it into Greek which is today known as Septuagint. In this book, they all translated 65 times word “Sheol” into Hades in Greek.

Jesus Statement on Hades
Matt 11:23 ….. Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. [The same is in Luke 10:15]
Jesus preached the Gospel in many cities but they did not repent and accept the Gospel and one of them is the people of Capernaum. Jesus condemn the people of that city that they will be sent to Hades. So Jesus’ statement on Hades here is very clear that Hades is  holding place of human soul after death.
Luke 16:22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, 16:23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.

Jesus tells us here that the incident of Lazarus and rich man took place after the death of Abraham, but during the time of Moses on earth. We have already proved that all the Old Testament human souls went to Sheol in the Old Testament time, which is also called Hades here. From here also we see that Sheol or Hades is holding place of departed human soul where Lazarus, Abraham and rich man are seen.

Word ‘Hades’ is written 11 times in the New Testament Bible and said to be  holding place of human soul of both righteous and unrighteous. All the verses of Hades are given below.

         Verses are:   Matthew 11:23, 16:18, Luke 10:15, 16:23,  Acts 2:27, 31, Rev. 1:18, 6:8, 20:13-14.

Conclusion
Holding place of  the righteous and wicked Souls before the time of the cross
