C- FEAR NOT: GOD IS YOUR PROCTECTOR

(Genesis 15:1)

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abraham in a vision” (v.1). This was the fifth time the Lord manifested Himself to Abram-later named Abraham (Gen.17:5).

1.       The first manifestation was in Ur of the Chaldeans (Gen.11:31; Act.7:1-4)

2.       The second manifestation was Haran where the Lord reaffirm His call and promise to Abram (Gen.12:1-4).

3.       The third manifestation was in Canaan, the promise land (Gen.12:7)

4.       The fourth manifestation was in Canaan, after Lot was separated from him (Gen.13:14, 15).

5.       The fifth manifestation was Hebron. After Lot was separated from  Abram, the latter moved his  herd and all his servants away to Hebron, which become home to this pilgrim. Because this great man of faith was now experiencing fear, the Lord appeared to Abram, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward” (v.1). Why was Abram afraid? What did he fear? Abram was the friend of God. He talked with God person to person, as the Lord manifested Himself to him, but he still was afraid. He is the only man in the Bible called God’s friend, yet he was afraid.

We must go back to chapter 14, to understand Abram’s fear. Chedorlaomer was king of Elam, a country east of Babylon. He was allied with three other ruthless kings. Five other kings of the Jordan valley, including the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah, had paid tribute to Chedorlaomer for twelve years. In the thirteenth year the rebelled (Gen.14:1-4). In the fourteenth year these four kings, with their armies, invaded the Jordan valley, sacked Sodom and Gomorrah, defeated their armies, took all their wealth, and captured women and men, including Abram’s nephew Lot. When the news reached Abram, he armed his 318 servants and pursued the numerically superior army into Dan. By night he divided his 318 men, and then attacked the army while they were sleeping and defeated them. The Word of God tells us that when he returned from the slaughter, he brought back the captives and all the wealth they had taken.

Now we can answer the question, “what did Abram fear?” Most likely he feared reprisal. He had defeated an army, he had humiliated them with 318 servants-perhaps men without experience in battle. He feared that these four vanquished kings would return and invade Hebron. He was afraid, and rightly so, from the human standpoint. But God appeared to him and said, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield.” In effect, God was saying, “I am your protector. Abram, you don’t have to fear barbarians, those wicked, ruthless kings. I am God Almighty; I will shield you; I will keep my promises and make you a great nation; I will give this land to your descendants. Abram, don’t fear!”

Then the Lord said, “[I am] your exceedingly great reward.” Abram, returning from the battle, was approached by the king of Sodom, who came out and told Abram to keep all the wealth that he had recovered-leaving him only with the people he had rescued. Abram replied that he would not take even a shoelace “lest you should say, ‘I have made Abraham rich’” (Gen.14:23). Abraham would not give anyone the opportunity to take credit for the way in which God had blessed him. God had blessed Abram and made him one of the richest men of all times. Abram honored God and sought only His glory. For Abram’s faithfulness God rewarded him with heaven’s highest honored; “I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

"इन बातों के बाद प्रभु का वचन एक दृष्टि में अब्राहम के पास आया" (v.1)। यह पाँचवीं बार था जब प्रभु ने खुद को अब्राम-बाद में अब्राहम के नाम से प्रकट किया (उत्पत्ति.17: 5)।

1. पहली अभिव्यक्ति उर की चेल्डेंस में हुई थी (उत्पत्ति.11: 31; प्रेरितों के काम 7: 1-4) ।

2. दूसरी अभिव्यक्ति हरण में हुई थी जहाँ प्रभु ने अपनी पुकार को पुष्टि किया था अब्राम से (उत्पत्ति 12:1-4)।

3. तीसरी अभिव्यक्ति कनान में थी, वादा किया हुआ देश में (उत्पत्ति 12: 7)

4. चौथा प्रकटन कनान में था, जब लूत को उससे अलग कर दिया गया था (उत्पत्ति 13: 14, 15)।

5. पांचवीं अभिव्यक्ति हेब्रोन में थी। अब्राम से लूत के अलग होने के बाद, बाद में उसके झुंड और उसके सभी नौकर हेब्रोन चले गए, जो इस तीर्थ का घर बन गया। क्योंकि विश्वास का यह महापुरुष अब डर का अनुभव कर रहा था, प्रभु ने अब्राम से कहा, “अब्राम, डरो मत। मैं आपकी कवच हूँ, आपका बहुत बड़ा प्रतिफल है ”(v.1)। अबराम क्यों डर रहा था? उसे क्या डर था? अब्राम परमेश्वर का मित्र था। उसने परमेश्वर से व्यक्ति के साथ बात की, क्योंकि प्रभु ने उसे स्वयं प्रकट किया, लेकिन वह अभी भी डर रहा था। वह बाइबल में एकमात्र व्यक्ति है जिसे परमेश्वर का मित्र कहा जाता है, फिर भी वह डरता था।

अब्राम के डर को समझने के लिए हमें अध्याय 14 पर वापस जाना होगा। चेदलोरोमर बाबुल के पूर्व में एलाम का राजा था। उन्हें तीन अन्य क्रूर राजाओं के साथ संबद्ध किया गया था। जॉर्डन घाटी के पांच अन्य राजाओं, जिनमें सदोम और गोमोराह के राजा भी शामिल थे, ने बारह साल तक चेडोरोमोर को श्रद्धांजलि दी थी। तेरहवें वर्ष में विद्रोही (उत्पत्ति 14: 1-4)। चौदहवें वर्ष में इन चार राजाओं ने अपनी सेनाओं के साथ, जॉर्डन घाटी पर आक्रमण किया, सदोम और गोमोराह को बर्खास्त किया, अपनी सेनाओं को हराया, अपने सभी धन को लिया, और अब्राम के भतीजे लूत सहित महिलाओं और पुरुषों को पकड़ लिया। जब खबर अब्राम तक पहुंची, तो उसने अपने 318 नौकरों को सशस्त्र किया और दान में संख्यात्मक रूप से श्रेष्ठ सेना का पीछा किया। रात तक उसने अपने 318 आदमियों को बांट दिया, और फिर सोते समय सेना पर हमला किया और उन्हें हरा दिया। परमेश्वर का वचन हमें बताता है कि जब वह वध से लौटा, तो वह बंदी और उनके पास मौजूद सभी धन वापस ले आया।

अब हम इस सवाल का जवाब दे सकते हैं, "अब्राम को क्या डर था?" सबसे अधिक संभावना है कि उन्हें प्रतिशोध की आशंका थी। उसने एक सेना को हराया था, उसने 318 नौकरों के साथ उन्हें अपमानित किया था-शायद युद्ध में अनुभव के बिना पुरुष। उसे डर था कि ये चारों वशीभूत राजा वापस लौटेंगे और हेब्रोन पर आक्रमण करेंगे। वह डरता था, और ठीक है, इसलिए मानवीय दृष्टिकोण से। लेकिन परमेश्वर ने उसे दर्शन दिए और कहा, “डरो मत, अब्राम। मैं आपकी कवच हूं। ” वास्तव में, परमेश्वर कह रहे थे, “मैं तुम्हारा रक्षक हूं। अब्राम, आपको बर्बर, दुष्ट, क्रूर राजाओं से डरने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। मैं सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर हूं; मैं तुम्हें कवच दूंगा; मैं अपने वादों को निभाउंगा और आपको एक महान राष्ट्र बनाऊंगा; मैं तुम्हारे वंशजों को यह भूमि दूँगा। अब्राम, डर मत! "

तब परमेश्वर ने कहा, "[मैं] तुम्हारा बहुत बड़ा प्रतिफल है।" अब्राम, लड़ाई से लौटते हुए, सदोम के राजा से संपर्क किया, जो बाहर आया और अब्राम से कहा कि वह अपने पास मौजूद लोगों के साथ ही उसे छोड़ कर सारी दौलत अपने पास रख ले। अब्राम ने जवाब दिया कि वह एक फावड़ा भी नहीं ले जाएगा, "ऐसा न हो कि तुम कहो, वह मैंने अब्राहम को अमीर बना दिया है" (उत्पत्ति 14: 23)। अब्राहम ने किसी को भी उस तरह से श्रेय लेने का अवसर नहीं दिया जिस तरह से परमेश्वर ने उसे आशीर्वाद दिया था। परमेश्वर ने अब्राम को आशीर्वाद दिया था और उसे सभी समय के सबसे अमीर लोगों में से एक बनाया था। अब्राम ने परमेश्वर को सम्मानित किया और केवल उसकी महिमा मांगी। अब्राम की वफादारी के लिए परमेश्वर ने उसे स्वर्ग के सर्वोच्च सम्मान से पुरस्कृत किया; "मैं आपकी कवच हूँ, आपका बहुत बड़ा प्रतिफल है।"
