A Wise Woman Builds Her House

“A Wise Woman Builds Her House”

Text: Proverbs 14:1
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.”

INTRODUCTION

Homes are not destroyed in a day.
Homes are not built in a day either.

This proverb shows us a contrast of two builders:

  • A wise woman who builds

  • A foolish woman who destroys

The verse teaches a universal truth:
The atmosphere of a home is shaped more by character than by circumstances.

Let us look at what the Bible says about a wise woman and a foolish woman.

I. THE WISE WOMAN — A BUILDER (Proverbs 14:1a)

“Every wise woman buildeth her house.”

1. She builds through character

Wisdom in the Bible is not just intelligence.
It is:

  • Fear of the Lord

  • Humility

  • Self-control

  • Discernment

  • Understanding people

  • Emotional maturity

A wise woman’s character becomes the foundation of her home.

2. She builds through her words

Her words heal, encourage, and bring life.
Proverbs 31:26 says:
“She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”

Her words:

  • Lift her husband

  • Shape her children

  • Preserve peace

3. She builds through her attitude

A home is built by the spirit of the woman inside it:

  • Calm spirit → peaceful home

  • Cheerful spirit → joyful home

  • Prayerful spirit → spiritual home

Atmosphere is created by attitude.

4. She builds through her priorities

A wise woman puts God first.
She guards her home from:

  • Sin

  • Division

  • Bitterness

  • Worldly influences

She is spiritually alert.

5. She builds intentionally

Building is not accidental.
Brick by brick—
through daily actions, decisions, sacrifices, and love.

II. THE FOOLISH WOMAN — A DESTROYER (Proverbs 14:1b)

“…but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.”

1. She destroys through her words

  • Harsh words

  • Constant criticism

  • Nagging

  • Disrespect

  • Loud anger

Proverbs 21:9:
“It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman.”

Words can tear down walls of trust.

2. She destroys through her attitude

  • Pride

  • Stubbornness

  • Jealousy

  • Bitterness

  • Rebellion

  • Self-centeredness

Her presence becomes heavy, tense, and destructive.

3. She destroys through spiritual carelessness

No prayer, no humility, no repentance.
A foolish woman allows:

  • Unforgiveness

  • Anger

  • Division

  • Worldly influences
    To enter her home.

4. She destroys through impulsive actions

“Plucketh it down with her hands”—
Not in one day, but daily decisions that weaken the home.

III. THE POWER OF A WOMAN’S INFLUENCE

This verse teaches a truth we must honor:

A woman is the heart of the home.

She sets:

  • The tone

  • The temperature

  • The atmosphere

God has given women a special influence over the home’s spiritual and emotional health.

**A husband may lead,

but a woman shapes the home.**

This is not pressure—it is a God-given strength.

IV. HOW TO BECOME A WISE WOMAN (Application)

1. Seek God’s wisdom daily

“Lord, give me wisdom” must be a daily prayer.

2. Guard your words

Let your mouth become a channel of life, not destruction.

3. Build a spirit of humility

Humility brings unity.
Humility invites God’s grace.

4. Practice forgiveness quickly

Homes are saved by forgiveness, not perfection.

5. Create a peaceful atmosphere intentionally

Your attitude becomes your family’s climate.

CONCLUSION

Proverbs 14:1 gives us a choice:

  • Be a builder or

  • Be a destroyer

A wise woman builds—
A foolish woman tears down.

May every woman choose wisdom,
May every home become strong,
May every family be filled with God’s peace.

CLOSING PRAYER (Optional)

“Lord, give us wise women and humble hearts.
Help every wife, mother, and daughter to build her house with wisdom.
Remove every spirit of pride, anger, and foolishness.
Let our homes be filled with Your presence, Your peace, and Your power.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
