When We Hesitate, God Raises Another

When We Hesitate, God Raises Another

Introduction

Two powerful stories from Scripture:

  • One from the Old Testament — the story of Deborah, Barak, and Jael in Judges 4.

  • And one from the New Testament — Jesus’ parable of the Talents in Matthew 25.

Both teach us the same truth: God entrusts us with opportunities, but if we hesitate in obedience, He can raise up another person to fulfill His purpose.

1. God’s Call Requires Obedience

📖 Judges 4:6–7 – Deborah delivered God’s command to Barak: “Go, gather your men… for I will give Sisera into your hand.”

  • God’s instructions were clear. He had already promised victory.

📖 Matthew 25:14–15 – Jesus said the master gave talents “to each according to his ability.”

  • God gives each of us something: gifts, resources, time, opportunities.

👉 Every believer here has a calling. God has entrusted something to you. The question is not if He has called you, but will you obey quickly?

2. Hesitation Leads to Lost Honor

📖 Judges 4:8–9 – Barak said: “If you go with me, I’ll go.” His faith was shaky.

  • Because of his hesitation, Deborah told him: “The honor will not be yours… the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.”

  • Barak still fought, but the ultimate honor went to Jael, not him.

📖 Matthew 25:18, 28 – The servant who buried his one talent lost it. The master took it away and gave it to another.

  • Hesitation, fear, and laziness cost him his opportunity.

👉 God’s mission never stops. If one hesitates, He will raise another. His plan continues, but we may miss the blessing that was meant for us.

3. God Uses the Unexpected

📖 Judges 4:21 – Who would have imagined? Not a mighty warrior, not Deborah, not Barak — but Jael, a housewife in her tent, with nothing more than a hammer and a tent peg.

  • She struck down Sisera, and God’s word was fulfilled.

📖 Matthew 25:21 – The faithful servants, though ordinary, received this commendation: “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

  • Faithfulness, not status, brought reward.

👉 God often chooses the unexpected — the humble, the weak, the overlooked — to accomplish His purpose. Don’t ever think you’re too small or unqualified. With God, your faithfulness is enough.

4. The Victory Belongs to the Lord

📖 Judges 4:23–24 – The Bible is clear: “On that day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan.”

  • The battle was not won by Barak’s sword, Deborah’s wisdom, or Jael’s courage alone. The victory belonged to God.

📖 Matthew 25:29 – “To everyone who has, more will be given… but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

  • Increase comes from the Master. We are stewards, not owners.

👉 Our job is obedience. The results, the fruit, the victory — all belong to God. Let’s never boast in our strength but give glory to Him.

Conclusion

Family of God, Deborah’s story and Jesus’ parable leave us with three challenges:

  1. Obey quickly. Don’t wait. When God calls, move.

  2. Be faithful with what you’ve been given. Whether it feels big or small, use it.

  3. Trust that God can use anyone. Even if others overlook you, God sees your faithfulness.

Remember: If we hesitate, God will raise another — but how much better if we say YES, Lord, use me!

Closing Verse

"So may all your enemies perish, Lord! But may all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength." (Judges 5:31)
