Money, Prosperity, and Covenant
“Money, Prosperity, and Covenant”
3 John 1:2 – “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
Introduction
-
The Bible never condemns money; it condemns the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10).
-
God’s desire is not just that we survive, but that we prosper in alignment with His covenant.
-
Money is not the source of prosperity—God’s covenant is.
1. Money is not a promise, but prosperity is covenant
-
Deuteronomy 8:18 – “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant…”
-
Money is temporary, fluctuates, and has no eternal guarantee.
-
Prosperity is tied to God’s covenant: it flows from obedience and relationship, not just human effort.
-
Illustration: Israel in the wilderness—no money, yet they lacked nothing (Deut. 2:7). Prosperity was covenant-based.
2. Money is a measurement of value, not just a medium of exchange
-
Money represents value, but value comes from wisdom, skills, and character.
-
Proverbs 3:13–14 – “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom… for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.”
-
Money is subject to intelligence: without wisdom, wealth is wasted (Proverbs 21:20).
-
If you increase your value through wisdom and excellence, money will naturally follow.
3. Money follows purpose, not people
-
Money is a servant, not a master.
-
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
-
Chasing money leads to frustration; pursuing God’s purpose attracts resources.
-
Example: Joseph in Egypt—he didn’t chase money; he walked in divine purpose, and wealth of nations came to him.
4. Money reveals the heart
-
Matthew 6:21 – “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
-
Money is not evil—it simply exposes what we truly value.
-
If we honor God with money (Proverbs 3:9–10), He multiplies provision.
5. True prosperity is holistic
-
3 John 1:2 again—prosperity includes soul, body, and resources.
-
Many chase wealth but lose peace. True prosperity is when your spiritual, physical, and financial life are aligned.
Conclusion
-
Money is not the end goal; it is a tool to fulfill covenant purpose.
-
Prosperity in God’s kingdom is about alignment with His Word and wisdom.
-
If you value covenant, wisdom, and purpose—money will follow you.
