Joseph as governor

The life of Joseph as governor (also called "Joseph the Vizier") is one of the most powerful and inspiring narratives in the Bible. His journey from a betrayed brother to the second-in-command of Egypt shows God’s providence, faithfulness, and purpose in times of suffering.

1. Promotion to Governor (Genesis 41:37–45)

After interpreting Pharaoh’s dreams about seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine, Joseph was appointed as Governor (Vizier) of Egypt.

“You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.”

  • Age: 30 years old at the time of appointment.

  • New Name: Pharaoh gave him an Egyptian name Zaphenath-Paneah.

When famine struck, people from all over Egypt and nearby nations came to Joseph for food.

4. Testing His Brothers (Genesis 42–44)

When his brothers came from Canaan to buy food, Joseph recognized them but did not reveal his identity immediately.
