Faithful Beginnings: Trusting God in Difficult Times
Faithful Beginnings: Trusting God in Difficult Times
Key Verse: Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Introduction
Starting a business during hardships may seem impossible, but God specializes in turning struggles into success. Many of the greatest businesses and ministries were birthed in difficult seasons. Today, we will learn how faith, wisdom, and perseverance can help us build even in tough times.
Example: Isaac’s Harvest in Famine (Genesis 26:1-12)
In Genesis 26, there was a severe famine in the land, but Isaac did something unexpected—he sowed in the land despite the hardship. The result? “Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The Lord blessed him.” (v.12)
- The natural response to hardship is to stop taking risks.
- The faith response is to trust God and move forward.
Lesson: Do not let hardship stop you from stepping out in faith!
1. Seek God’s Guidance Before You Start
📖 Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Before starting a business, seek the Lord in prayer and fasting. Ask:
✔️ Is this business aligned with God’s will?
✔️ How can I use it to glorify God?
✔️ Am I trusting in my own wisdom or in Him?
Example: Many biblical leaders, like King David, never made a major decision without asking the Lord first. When you let God lead, He will open doors you never imagined.
2. Start with What You Have, Not What You Lack
📖 2 Kings 4:1-7 – The Widow’s Oil
A widow was in great debt, and her sons were about to be taken as slaves. She cried out to Elisha, and he asked her, “What do you have in your house?” She replied, “Only a small jar of oil.”
Elisha told her to collect empty jars and pour out her oil. Miraculously, the oil kept flowing until every jar was filled. She sold the oil, paid her debts, and had enough left to live on.
🔹 Lesson: God will multiply what you already have, but you must take a step of faith!
🔹 Business Tip: Instead of waiting for a big investment, start small with what you have.
3. Work Hard and Stay Diligent
📖 Proverbs 22:29 – “Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”
- Hardship is not an excuse for laziness.
- A business requires diligence, discipline, and commitment.
- Success comes through consistency, not overnight miracles.
Example: Joseph worked diligently in every season—as a slave, in prison, and later as a ruler. Because of his faithfulness, God promoted him.
🔹 Lesson: If you remain faithful, God will bless your work beyond what you can imagine.
4. Trust God, Not Just Profits
📖 Matthew 6:33 – “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Many businesses fail because they focus only on money and not on God’s principles.
- Honor God in your business with integrity, honesty, and generosity.
- Put God first, and He will take care of your needs.
🔹 Example: Businesses that give generously and operate with integrity often find unexpected blessings and favor.
5. Keep Pressing Forward, Even When It’s Hard
📖 Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Every successful business owner has faced struggles. The key is to not give up.
Example: Thomas Edison failed 1,000 times before he succeeded in making the light bulb. Failure is not the end; it is part of the process.
🔹 Lesson: If God has given you a vision, keep moving forward despite setbacks.
Conclusion: God is With You
Starting a business during hardship is not easy, but God is faithful. If we seek His wisdom, work diligently, and trust in Him, He will bless the work of our hands.
