WHEN HOPE AND IMAGINATION GIVE BIRTH TO FAITH

WHEN HOPE AND IMAGINATION GIVE BIRTH TO FAITH

Text: Hebrews 11:1 | Romans 4:18 | Genesis 37

Introduction

Faith does not appear suddenly.

The Bible says:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
— Hebrews 11:1

This means:

  • No hope → no faith

  • No imagination → no hope

When people say, “I’m losing my faith,”
what they usually lost first is hope
and before that, vision.

I. Abraham: Faith Begins When Hope Is Restored

“Against hope, he believed in hope.” — Romans 4:18

Abraham’s condition:

  • Old body

  • Barren wife

  • No natural future

Yet God did something powerful—He fed Abraham’s imagination.

“Look now toward heaven, and count the stars…” — Genesis 15:5

Before Isaac was born:

  • Abraham saw the promise

  • He spoke the promise (new name)

  • He imagined what God said

Truth:
What God wants to fulfill in your life,
He first wants you to see.

II. Joseph: Faith Survives When Imagination Is Tested

“Joseph dreamed a dream…” — Genesis 37:5

Joseph’s faith began with a vision.

But the journey included:

  • A pit

  • Slavery

  • False accusation

  • Prison

Yet Scripture keeps repeating:

“But the Lord was with Joseph.”

Joseph’s circumstances tried to kill the dream,
but Joseph refused to let hope die.

Key Insight:
If the enemy cannot destroy your faith,
he will try to bury your imagination.

III. My Life: Faith After Failure

Now I want to speak honestly.

Like Abraham and Joseph, my journey has not been perfect.

I have failed many times.
There were seasons I questioned myself.
Moments I thought, “Maybe I missed God.”

Yet—God did not stop speaking.

Even when I felt unworthy, God spoke through His servants.
At different times, through different people, the same word came:

“Your sound will go far.”
“God will use your voice.”
“Your sound will be great beyond where you are now.”

I didn’t chase these words.
I held them with fear and humility before God.

And I learned this truth:

God speaks about our future while He is still working on our character.

Joseph heard about the palace before the prison.
Abraham was called a father before the child.
And God spoke over my life before I was ready.

IV. Failure Does Not Cancel God’s Word

“The gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”
— Romans 11:29

Failure may delay us.
Failure may humble us.
But failure does not cancel what God has spoken.

So today my prayer is not:

  • “Lord, make me great”

But:

  • “Lord, keep me faithful until You fulfill Your word.”

Because if God has spoken,
He Himself will bring it to pass.

V. Application: How Faith Is Rebuilt

If your faith feels weak today:

  1. Restore hope – God is not finished

  2. Protect imagination – Don’t let pain rewrite God’s promise

  3. Stay faithful – Fulfillment is God’s responsibility

“The vision is yet for an appointed time…” — Habakkuk 2:3

Conclusion

Faith is not blind.

Faith:

  • Sees before it receives

  • Believes before it understands

  • Waits before it celebrates

Hope creates faith.
Imagination sustains hope.
Faith endures until God fulfills His word.

Same God.
Same process.
Same faith.

Closing Prayer

“Lord, restore our hope. Heal our imagination. Strengthen our faith. And fulfill every word You have spoken—for Your glory alone. Amen.”
