Song of Songs 1

The Song of Songs (also called Song of Solomon) is a very poetic book of the Bible. It celebrates love, intimacy, beauty, and devotion — both in human marriage and, spiritually, between Christ and His Bride (the Church).

Here’s a verse-by-verse explanation of Chapter 1 (from verse 1 up to the last verse, v.17):

Song of Songs 1:1

“The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.”

Meaning: This is not just any song — it is the song above all songs, a masterpiece of love.
Spiritually: It points to the highest form of love, God’s covenant love.

1:2

“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.”

Human: A longing for deep intimacy and affection.
Spiritual: The believer’s soul longing for Christ’s presence and love, which is more satisfying than earthly pleasures.

1:3

“Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.”

Meaning: The beloved’s name and character are compared to fragrant oil.
Spiritual: Christ’s name is full of power, grace, and healing — no wonder many love Him.

1:4

“Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.”

Human: A desire to be brought closer into intimacy.
Spiritual: The believer is drawn into deeper fellowship with Christ, rejoicing in His love above all else.

1:5–6

“I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.”

Meaning: The bride feels unworthy or weathered by hardship, yet still beautiful.
Spiritual: The Church, though persecuted and outwardly afflicted, is beautiful in Christ’s eyes. Sometimes believers care for others but neglect their own souls.

1:7

“Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?”

Meaning: The bride longs to know where her beloved is.
Spiritual: The believer seeks Christ’s presence, desiring not to be led astray by false shepherds.

1:8

“If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds’ tents.”

Meaning: The beloved answers — she should follow the path of the flock.
Spiritual: Christ invites the believer to follow His people and walk in the ways of faith.

1:9–10

“I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s chariots. Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.”

Meaning: The bride is praised for her strength and beauty.
Spiritual: Christ adorns His church with His grace and righteousness.

1:11

“We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.”

Meaning: A promise of more beauty and adornment.
Spiritual: God continues to sanctify and glorify His people.

1:12

“While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.”

Meaning: The bride’s perfume brings fragrance in the king’s presence.
Spiritual: Believers’ devotion and worship rise as a sweet fragrance before Christ.

1:13–14

“A bundle of myrrh is my wellbeloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts. My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.”

Meaning: The beloved is precious and refreshing, like perfume and sweet fruit.
Spiritual: Christ is close to the believer’s heart, precious and refreshing to the soul.

1:15

“Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes.”

Meaning: The beloved praises the bride’s beauty and pure eyes.
Spiritual: Christ sees His church as pure, full of love and devotion.

1:16–17

“Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green. The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.”

Meaning: The bride returns the praise, describing their union as beautiful and secure, surrounded by nature.
Spiritual: The fellowship between Christ and His church is refreshing, strong, and enduring.

पद 1

“श्रेष्ठगीत श्रेष्ठ गीत है। यह सुलैमान का है।”
👉 यह एक विशेष गीत है, जिसे सबसे उत्तम गीत कहा गया है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: परमेश्वर का प्रेम मनुष्य के हर गीत से महान है।

पद 2

“काश! वह अपने मुख के चुम्बनों से मुझे चूमें। तेरे प्रेम की स्तुति दाखमधु से भी बढ़कर है।”
👉 दुल्हिन अपने प्रिय की निकटता और प्रेम की लालसा करती है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: आत्मा मसीह के प्रेम की गहराई चाहती है, जो सांसारिक सुख से बढ़कर है।

पद 3

“तेरे सुगन्धित तेल सुगन्धित हैं; तेरा नाम उण्डेली हुई सुगन्धि के समान है; इसलिये कुमारियाँ तुझ से प्रेम करती हैं।”
👉 दूल्हे का नाम और चरित्र सुगन्ध की तरह है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: यीशु का नाम ही आरोग्य, शांति और प्रेम से भरपूर है।

पद 4

“मुझे अपनी ओर खींच ले, तब हम दौड़ेंगे। राजा ने मुझे अपनी कोठरी में पहुंचाया है। हम तुझ में मगन रहेंगे और आनन्दित होंगे। हम तेरे प्रेम की चर्चा दाखमधु से बढ़कर करेंगे। धर्मात्मा तुझ से प्रेम करते हैं।”
👉 दुल्हिन अपने प्रिय से खींचे जाने की इच्छा व्यक्त करती है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: मसीह आत्मा को अपने समीप खींचते हैं और उसमें ही सच्चा आनन्द मिलता है।

पद 5–6

“हे यरूशलेम की बेटियों, मैं काली तो हूँ, पर मनोहर हूँ; केदार के तम्बुओं के समान, सुलैमान के पर्दों के समान। मेरी ओर मत देखो कि मैं काली हूँ, क्योंकि सूर्य ने मुझे तपा दिया है। मेरी माता के पुत्र मुझ पर क्रोधित हुए; उन्होंने मुझे अंगूर की बारी की रखवाली करनेवाली ठहराया; परन्तु अपनी अंगूर की बारी मैंने नहीं रखी।”
👉 दुल्हिन अपने को सांवली, परन्तु सुन्दर बताती है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: कलीसिया बाहरी दृष्टि से सताई जाती है, परन्तु मसीह की दृष्टि में वह सुन्दर है।

पद 7

“हे मेरे प्राण के प्रिय, मुझे बता कि तू अपनी भेड़ों को कहाँ चराता है, और दोपहर के समय उन्हें कहाँ बैठाता है? क्यों मैं तेरे साथियों की भेड़ों के झुण्डों के पास भटकती फिरूँ?”
👉 वह अपने प्रिय के पास रहना चाहती है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: विश्वासी मसीह की उपस्थिति की खोज करता है, झूठे चरवाहों से बचना चाहता है।

पद 8

“हे स्त्रियों में सबसे सुन्दरी, यदि तू नहीं जानती, तो भेड़ों के पदचिह्नों के पीछे-पीछे जा, और बकरी के बच्चों को चराऊ, चरवाहों के डेरे के पास।”
👉 प्रिय उत्तर देता है: सच्चे मार्ग का अनुसरण करो।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: मसीह अपने जनों को धर्मी जीवन और संगति में चलने को बुलाते हैं।

पद 9–10

“हे मेरे प्रिय, मैंने तुझे फ़िरौन के रथों की घोड़ियों से तुलना दी है। तेरे गाल आभूषणों से सुशोभित हैं, तेरी गर्दन मोतियों की माला से।”
👉 दुल्हे द्वारा दुल्हिन की सुन्दरता का वर्णन।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: मसीह अपनी कलीसिया को महिमा और शोभा से सजाते हैं।

पद 11

“हम तेरे लिये सोने के हार चाँदी के खिलों से बनाएंगे।”

📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को पवित्रता और महिमा से सजाते हैं।

पद 12

“जब राजा अपनी चौकी पर बैठा था, मेरी नर्द की सुगन्धि फैल रही थी।”
👉 दुल्हिन अपने प्रिय की उपस्थिति में सुगन्ध बिखेरती है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: विश्वासियों की आराधना मसीह के लिये सुगन्ध बनती है।

पद 13–14

“मेरा प्रिय मेरे लिये गन्धरस की गट्ठरी के समान है, जो मेरी छाती के बीच रातभर रहता है। मेरा प्रिय मेरे लिये एंगदी की दाखबारी के फूलों की झाड़ी के समान है।”
👉 दुल्हिन अपने प्रिय को सबसे अनमोल सुगन्धि के समान मानती है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: मसीह विश्वासियों के हृदय में वास करते हैं।

पद 15

“देख, तू सुन्दर है, हे मेरी प्रियतमा, देख, तू सुन्दर है; तेरी आँखें कबूतर की सी हैं।”
👉 दुल्हा दुल्हिन की आँखों और सुन्दरता की प्रशंसा करता है।
📖 आध्यात्मिक अर्थ: मसीह अपनी कलीसिया की पवित्र और प्रेममयी दृष्टि को सराहते हैं।

पद 16–17

“देख, तू सुन्दर है, हे मेरे प्रिय, प्रियकर और मनोहर है; हरी-भरी हमारी शैय्या है। हमारे घर की कड़ियाँ देवदार की और हमारे छज्जे सनौबर के हैं।”
👉 दुल्हिन भी अपने प्रिय की प्रशंसा करती है।
