Time is gift from God
Key Verse: Ephesians 5:15-16 – “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time.”
Introduction
- Time is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. Yet, many people waste time or fail to manage it properly.
- Biblical heroes understood the value of time and used it wisely for God's glory.
- As believers, we must train ourselves and others to manage time effectively.
I. Time Is a Gift from God (Moses – The Wisdom of Numbering Our Days)
Psalm 90:12 – “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
- Moses led Israel for 40 years. He realized how precious time was and prayed for wisdom to use it well.
- Every season of life is part of God’s plan, and we must learn to make the most of it.
Application:
- Recognize that time is limited—every day is an opportunity to serve God.
- Seek wisdom in how you spend your time.
- Don't waste time on unfruitful activities; focus on what truly matters.
II. Set Priorities According to God’s Will (Jesus – Putting the Kingdom First)
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
- Jesus lived only 33 years but changed the world because He set the right priorities.
- He spent time in prayer, teaching, and serving others, rather than chasing worldly success.
Application:
- Make God the first priority—start the day with prayer and devotion.
- Invest in family and relationships—don’t let busyness rob you of meaningful time.
- Focus on your God-given mission—don't let distractions pull you away.
III. Work Hard, But Work Smart (Joseph – Faithfulness in Every Season)
Proverbs 6:6-8 – "Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise."
- Joseph started as a slave but became a ruler because he worked diligently and wisely.
- He used his time well in Potipar’s house, in prison, and in Pharaoh’s palace—each season prepared him for his destiny.
Lessons from Joseph:
- Be diligent – Even in difficult seasons, stay faithful.
- Use wisdom – Plan ahead and make wise decisions.
- See the big picture – God’s timing is perfect; don’t rush ahead or fall behind.
IV. Avoid Procrastination and Laziness (Nehemiah – Building the Wall Without Delay)
Proverbs 24:33-34 – “A little sleep, a little slumber... so shall poverty come upon you.”
- Nehemiah was given a mission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Instead of delaying, he took immediate action.
- He faced opposition, but he stayed focused and completed the work in just 52 days!
Application:
- Don’t wait for the perfect time—start where you are.
- Set clear goals and work consistently to achieve them.
- Overcome distractions and opposition by staying focused on God’s mission.
V. Rest and Trust in God (Elijah – Learning to Rest in God's Presence)
Psalm 127:2 – “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late… for so He gives His beloved sleep.”
- Elijah was a mighty prophet but became exhausted and discouraged after great victories.
- God told him to rest, eat, and regain strength before continuing his mission (1 Kings 19:4-8).
Application:
- Rest is not laziness—it is necessary for productivity.
- Spend time in God’s presence to renew your strength.
- Trust that God is in control—don’t overwork yourself with worry.
Conclusion
- Time is a gift—use it wisely for God’s glory.
- Follow biblical heroes who managed time well and fulfilled their mission.
- Prioritize what matters—God, family, purpose.
- Work smart and avoid procrastination, but also rest and trust God.
Final Prayer:
“Lord, help us to use our time wisely, as Moses prayed. Help us to prioritize like Jesus, work diligently like Joseph, stay focused like Nehemiah, and find rest like Elijah. Teach us to redeem the time for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
